Hi, I’m James.

This is the bit where I’m supposed to write lots of interesting stuff about my process and how I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil. Well it’s true, I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I also used to use my pencil as a screwdriver – copying my dad whilst he did DIY. I tried to unscrew many a plug socket. Thankfully, I survived without electrocution and now my pencils are used for the purpose they were intended.

Portraiture is incredibly important to me, I find the anatomy of the head fascinating and I love studying a face and bringing it to life in my own way. Seeing a face begin to look back at me as I lay down marks, never gets old. Every portrait excites me.

Hearing this may not blow your socks off, so instead, here are a couple of mildly interesting facts about me…

#1 —

I’ve never had a headache.

“What! Even when you’re hungover?” is what most people say. Yes, I don’t even know what a headache feels like. I’ve told many a doctor because I believe I could sell myself to medical science and cure headaches, but they never seem that phased.

#2 —

I used to be an engineer.

A slightly longer story, but also true. I’ll tell you all about it when we become friends.

Not amazed? Ok. Well in case you couldn’t tell, I love drawing heads, I really frickin love drawing heads.

If you have a head and you want it drawn, all you gotta do is ASK. I’m pretty friendly.

And no, I don’t do pet portraits!
